I expected Ready Player One to be on the list. There’s 2 on the list I hadn’t heard off so now I’ll have to read them!
This is such a great idea for a list! I love videogame-ish books (lol!) Ready Player One should definitely be on this list for sure. I just finished a new sci fi book that 100% fits this theme called “Meta: Game On” by Xander Black – https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TPR2M3Q.
A failed physicist, Cyrus, and ex game designer, Everett, are working their way up the leaderboards of the world’s most popular game in a virtual world, the Neverborn. The real world is crumbling, and everyone escapes to the Cybernet to “live” their lives. Things seem to be going well for the two when suddenly some of the top gamers disappear and their real-life human counterparts are found dead! Cryus and Everett find themselves under suspicion and need to figure out a way to clear their names. What follows is a “who-dun-it” set in a dystopian future and a cyber universe. This book is full of hilarious social commentary, great references and some really smart storytelling. Definitely recommend!
