His Polity series (The Ian Cormac books) is exceptional, and shows the reader how effortlessly it seems to make new worlds with their own eco-systems, and a new society where the norms are more utopian, now that the AIs have taken over. The Ian Cormac series is like reading James Bond in Space. His spin-off series, the Spatterjay novels, explores one of the planets he only touched on in the Ian Cormac series, enriching the planet, and filling in even more backstory for that world.
