I am astounded that so many older books made it into this poll. By that I mean that each book followed another, but could also function as a standalone. I totally agree with the results. Some of these books have evoked an emotional reaction, particularly The White Dragon which has been a favorite for a long time, my other favorite from this series was All the Weyrs of Pern . Would have liked to see other authors, but many of them wrote standalone books without identified (specified) sequels. Many used the same characters in more than one book, but were not called sequels, like Andre Norton books. All of the books included in these results were excellent and I am very happy with the results.
Talk about evoking emotional responses. I am still struck by the adroit comment from Carl Sagan: “What an astonishing thing a book is…[one read] and you’re inside the mind of another…[a second read] is proof that humans are capable of working magic.
The top ten list is fantastic! Seven of the ten are in my library!
