The Arena is somewhere between 16 and 32 light-years across, with smaller spheres around it simulating individual star systems. There are also thousands of aliens races, and they compete in the Arena for just about anything from who buys lunch on up to the spheres which are linked back to the star systems. It is a great series to read.
